SEN. REID NEWS RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced today that the Tahoe-Douglas Fire District will be receiving a $2,701,896 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as part of the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Program. The SAFER grant funds will be used to increase the number of firefighters, as well as to develop better emergency readiness capabilities.

“The SAFER program is essential to help ensure the safety of Nevada’s communities,” Reid said. “I remain committed to making sure that firefighters in the Tahoe-Douglas Fire District and across Nevada are fully equipped to respond quickly and efficiently to wildfires or any emergency need.”

Background

The SAFER Program is managed and administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Grant funds are used for the salaried and benefits of firefighters hired over a 2 year award performance period.
