Highlights from today’s Reno City Council meeting

cityofreno-189x300-1262841-8297573Today the Reno City Council held its regularly scheduled meeting. Below are some highlights from the meeting.

• Agenda Item E.2
The City Council accepted the private contribution of $5,000 from Senior Care Plus to support the Reno/Tahoe Winter Senior Games. The funding allows the event to happen at a very minimal cost to the customers while providing a quality event.

The 2013 Inaugural Reno/Tahoe Senior Winter Games are scheduled for Feb. 4 through 14. The Winter Games offer an array of positive, recreational activities for senior adults, ages 50 years and older. Individual events will occur at various locations in Reno and culminate with a Valentine’s Day Dance at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino on Feb. 14.

For fiscal year 2012-2013, the Reno City Council outlined seniors and youth as one of their priorities. Annual priorities are established as short-term goals and are intended to enable the City to attain long-term goals and achieve the Council’s vision for the City.

• Agenda Item E.3
The Reno City Council accepted a donation in the amount of $1,000 from GI Consultants, Ltd, Reno Physicians to the Reno Fire Department. The funding will further help the Reno Fire Department with its fire prevention public education activities.

The City of Reno is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all people living in and visiting our city. The Reno Fire Department is dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and home fire injuries through prevention and protection education. The Reno City Council approved several appointments for boards and commissions. Here is a list of some of the appointments:

Financial Advisory Board: Jason Norris
Ward Two (Central) Neighborhood Advisory Board: Genevieve Martinez
Ward Two (South) Neighborhood Advisory Board: James Pehrson
Ward Four (Northwest) Neighborhood Advisory Board: Lewis Green
Historical Resources Commission: Ron Moschetti
Artown: Council Member Oscar Delgado
