One important resolution to keep is getting your estate plan in order. Most people realize they need an estate plan to manage their affairs if something happens to them.

However, estate planning attorneys are expensive. Many people question whether they can skip the attorney fees and use a low-cost website or as recently seen on Groupon “create your own will” software. Although High Sierra Legal is not able to give legal advice, they are able to assist you achieving your New Year’s goals similarly to hiring a lawyer.

High Sierra Legal’s staff is trained to make sure your goals are met competently and affordably.

Our forms are not generic, they are specific to your wants and your individual needs. We meet with you in person and take the time to make sure your wishes are properly documented.

Whether it’s a will, living trust, divorce, name change or change in custody, High Sierra Legal doesn’t provide just one form, we provide complete packages. High Sierra Legal provides you with the same documents a lawyer would as many of the forms are uniformly set by the Nevada Supreme Court.

It is the same information you provide a costly attorney for the same result. Why pay the high cost for the same product?

In regards to your estate plan, it’s important to get something down sooner than later. You can always change your mind later. If money is an issue, start with what you can afford (a will, power of attorney, health care documents) and upgrade later when you can. If you already have one, it’s time to look to review and update your existing plan.

Revisions should be made any time there are changes in your family (birth, death, marriage, divorce, remarriage). At minimum, everyone over the age of 18 should have a durable power of attorney for health care, which gives another person legal authority to make health care decisions (including life and death decisions) for you if you are unable to make them for yourself and a HIPAA authorizations, which give written consent for doctors to discuss your medical situation with others, including family members.

In addition, a revocable living trust is preferable over a will at incapacity because it can prevent the court from controlling your assets.

The decision to file for divorce is a difficult one. High Sierra Legal will provide you with the required forms and instructions to make this process as easy and affordable as possible. If you have been putting off making a change in custody, child support or filing for divorce due to the time and costs associated with hiring a lawyer, High Sierra Legal can help.

We can help guide you through this difficult process so that you can become your own lawyer. We meet with you after hours, so you don’t have to miss time from work and home to go meet with a lawyer. Many forms can be completed through our website and email for your convenience. High Sierra Legal is a fast, easy, accurate, low-cost alternative for filing your own legal forms.

Until April 1, 2013, take an additional $150 off any service. Contact High Sierra Legal here.
