The Washoe County Social Services Have a Heart and Adoption Fair is an important community event on foster parenting and adopting foster children this Saturday, Jan. 26th from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club in Reno. Information, snacks, and fun for participants provided and all children are welcome.

“There is nothing like seeing children matched with their forever family,” said foster and adoptive parent Kim Stevens. “You see what a big difference the small things you do make in a child’s life.”

Who: Washoe County Foster Care has nearly 800 children who need assistance and are seeking safe, stable licensed foster homes throughout the community. County recruitment and training staff will be available to answer questions for those wishing to pursue foster care or adoption. Staff will also be able to assist with the necessary paperwork to start the licensing process.

What: Have a Heart works to keep children safe by raising awareness of the need for foster children to remain in their schools if placement in foster care is necessary. On any given day, approximately 100 children are available for adoption and/or foster care under Washoe County’s supervision and over 60 children reside in the shelter. Keeping children in a familiar environment of school and friends provides a stable foundation while going through such a trying time in their lives.

Where: Boys and Girls Club, 2680 East Ninth Street, Reno, NV

When: 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013
