HEALTHY COMMUNITIES COALITION NEWS RELEASE

Teen volunteers in Dayton raise thousands of pounds of vegetables for the region's food pantries each summer through a sustainable agriculture internship program with Healthy Communities Coalition's "Community Roots." Photo by Wendy Madson.Martin Luther King famously said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” Across the country, Americans will take part in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Projects over the next few days. If you’d like to find service opportunities not only this weekend but throughout the year, Healthy Communities Coalition is a hub for volunteering not only for adults of all ages, but for children and teens as well.

No matter what you love doing, there’s a local project that needs your help and your passion. Whether it’s teaching teens to curate an art exhibit, moving food boxes, writing thank you notes or newsletters, growing vegetables for a food pantry, taking photos, performing in a community music concert, organizing a free summer youth program, leading a food drive, helping with a health care event, writing grants, sewing quilts, teaching a canning class, etc., your skills and time are always needed and valued.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey is a nonprofit that works to build self-reliant communities by promoting a network of individual volunteers and groups that work to remove barriers that stand in the way of self-reliance so that people can find more ways to learn new skills, to serve others and to access the resources they need to thrive. If you’d like to be part of high-impact projects that really make a long-term difference in your community, call the Coalition staff at (775) 287-7598 and get connected to projects that inspire you.
