Date:

washoe-300x294-8460506-9467977Washoe County Senior Services is offering a variety of programs to help residents with health care decisions, legal matters, long-term care and public benefits. Services are focused on meeting the needs of seniors and people with disabilities.

“Many families gather around the holidays and realize their older relatives may be facing new challenges,” said Senior Services Director Grady Tarbutton. “Washoe County Senior Services can assist in many different ways, and we just want to remind people we are here to help.”

  • The Aging and Disability Resource Center can help with questions about long- term care options, in-home care and other community resources, including Medicaid and Veterans’ Benefits for people that want to remain in their homes.
  • The Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) assists with questions about choosing a Medicare health plan and understanding the difference between regular Medicare, a Medicare Advantage Plan and Medicare Part D. SHIP counselors are volunteers trained by the Access to Healthcare Network and the Nevada Insurance Commissioner.
  • The Senior Law Project (SLP) can address a variety of legal issues, including Elder Law, Estate Planning (such as living wills, powers of attorney, and wills), powers of attorney, landlord/tenant matters, public benefits (such as administrative appeals for income maintenance or healthcare benefits maintenance) and other legal issues common to the senior community. The SLP services focus on the client’s objective, the complexity of the problem and the SLP resources available. (775) 328-2592.
