Washoe County Requests Citizens’ Input

Date:

washoe-300x294-6615761-4909076Open Washoe County, an online program for citizen input and feedback, is asking residents what they like most about their neighborhood.

The open forum is accessible through the Washoe County website at www.washoecounty.us/openwashoe. Individuals can make comments, suggestions and read what other community members are saying about a particular issue.

Newly elected Commissioners Marsha Berkbigler, District 1, and Vaughn Hartung, District 4, will be sworn into office Jan. 7, 2013, and will join current Commissioners Bonnie Weber, District 5, David Humke, District 2, and Kitty Jung, District 3, in serving the people of Washoe County.

“We’ve just recently launched this program,” said Washoe County Manager Katy Simon. “And it’s helping to provide our County staff members and elected officials with immediate feedback so we can continue to involve citizens in the issues that matter most to them.”

Commissioner Bonnie Weber said Open Washoe County is an easy-to-use and fiscally responsible tool that values a citizen’s time commitment.

“Open Washoe County is a great way to reach out to our constituents and get their input on important issues in our community, said Weber. “We want to encourage participation among Washoe County residents and their elected County Commission, so we value the open dialogue that “Open Washoe County” brings.”

The program was developed by Peak Democracy, www.peakdemocracy.com, a non-partisan company whose mission is to broaden civic engagement and build public trust in government. Nearly 50 other cities and counties are using the platform including: Palo Alto, California, Salt Lake City, Utah and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Washoe County is the first county in Nevada to implement this interactive online tool.

The current Open Washoe County topic asks the question:

What do you like most about your neighborhood? Read what others are saying about issues in the community and share an opinion at Open Washoe County.
