Do you have a special event for Reno that spurs economic development and provides a sense of community? Are you looking for sponsorship from the City of Reno?

The deadline for the City of Reno’s Special Event Sponsorship Application is Friday, December 7, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. The Special Events Subcommittee of the Reno City Council will make a decision on the awarded sponsorships in the third week of January 2013.

All City of Reno Special Event Sponsorships will be provided through the provision of in-kind City services. No cash sponsorships will be awarded through the Special Event Sponsorship.

Preferences for special event funding are:

• Events which spur economic development and a sense of community.

• Events that are valued by Reno Citizens.

• Events that are unique.

• Events that have a realistic potential for growth and/or longevity.

• Events that are free and open to the general public.

• Promoters who have sought funding from the City of Reno Neighborhood Advisory Boards.

Other considerations will include how stable the organization is that seeks support, whether pasts events have gained critical mass, and what the event’s promotional strategy for the event will be.

On November 7, 2012, the Reno City Council approved a new special events sponsorship policy and formation of new Special Events Sponsorship Committee, which were both recommended by the Special Events Subcommittee. The policy and committee was intended to create a robust, equitable, and transparent event sponsorship allocation process.

For fiscal year 2012-2013, the Reno City Council outlined Arts, Culture and Special Events as one of their priorities. Annual priorities are established as short-term goals and are intended to enable the City to attain long-term goals and achieve the Council’s vision for the City. The City of Reno encourages community events that add quality of life for our residents and visitors. The City of Reno strives to protect and add both regional and local special events which will grow the current tourism base and attract new visitors.
