The World Curling Federation (WCF) has announced that Copenhagen, Denmark will host the 2013 WCF Annual Congress and Reno Tahoe in the USA will host the event in 2014.

The Danish capital, Copenhagen, will welcome delegates to the second WCF Annual Congress between the 26th of August to the 2nd of September 2013. Reno Tahoe in Nevada, USA will host the third WCF Annual Congress between the 25th of August and 1st of September 2014.

WCF President, Kate Caithness was pleased to confirm both host cities, having received a number of bids following the inaugural WCF Annual Congress which was held in Turnberry, Scotland, in October this year.

She said: “The World Curling Federation is looking forward to going to Copenhagen and Reno Tahoe for our next two Annual Congresses. Both the Danish Curling Association and United States Curling Association submitted excellent bids and have forged strong local partnerships to ensure the success of these events. Both Copenhagen and Reno Tahoe offer exceptional environments for our delegates to meet and discuss the key issues shaping the WCF and the sport of curling today.”

Sport Event Denmark has been instrumental in the Copenhagen bid and will continue to be a major partner in the planning process for the 2013 Congress. Sport Event Denmark CEO, Lars Lundov, is looking forward to hosting the second WCF Annual Congress in Denmark and is pleased to see the country’s association with curling continue.

He said: “We are delighted, together with the Danish Curling Association and our city partners, to host the WCF Annual Congress in 2013 in our capital Copenhagen. In 2011, the Danish city of Esbjerg had the honour of hosting the World Women’s Curling Championship. Now, we have been given the responsibility of hosting the WCF Annual Congress in 2013 we aim to make it a great success.”

Nevada Lieutenant Governor and Chairman of the Reno Tahoe Winter Games, Brian Krolicki, was equally delighted that Reno Tahoe was confirmed as host of the 2014 WCF Annual Congress.

He said: “We are honored to have the World Curling Federation select Reno Tahoe as the first North American region to host its Annual Congress. Coupled with Las Vegas hosting the WFG Continental Cup of Curling, Nevada plans to shine a bright spotlight on the sport of curling in the Olympic year – 2014.”
Christopher Baum, President and CEO of Reno Tahoe USA, added, “Our team was delighted to work with U.S. Curling on their successful bid, and we look forward to hosting this distinguished group during Northern Nevada’s prime tourist and special events season.”
