The Regional Planning Governing Board (RPGB) took final action last week to appoint Kimberly H. Robinson as the Executive Director of the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency (TMRPA). Ms. Robinson has been acting as the Interim Director of TMRPA since December 2011. In their comments last week, the RPGB commended Ms. Robinson for moving TMRPA in a new direction by enhancing coordination and recognizing opportunities to promote economic opportunity through thoughtful analysis of past, present and future land use.
Prior to joining the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency, Ms. Robinson was employed as the Community Planning Services Manager at Washoe County from 2007 through 2011. Among her many contributions at Washoe County, Ms. Robinson partnered on the development of the first strategic plan for the Community Development Department and oversaw regional collaboration with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, the Tahoe Transportation District and TMRPA.
Before moving back to Nevada, Ms. Robinson was a manager for the City of Detroit Planning and Development Department, and oversaw various projects, including the completion of the Housing and Urban Development 2005-2010 Consolidated Plan and the development of a web based property information system to better manage the approximately 397,000 parcels within the city limits. Ms. Robinson was also a member of the Executive Committee for the Mayor’s Office Next Detroit Neighborhood initiative, a five year strategy focusing on neighborhood rejuvenation.
Ms. Robinson received an undergraduate degree from UNLV, and her Master’s degree in Urban Planning from the University of Michigan.
The collaborative role of the Regional Planning Agency results in partnerships with Reno, Sparks and Washoe County, as well as the Regional Transportation Commission, the Western Regional Water Commission, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, the Western Nevada Development District and the Washoe County School District, among others. In addition to coordinating land-use, infrastructure provision and resource management, TMRPA provides an information warehouse and data driven, thoughtful analysis for public and private decision makers, and is committed to supporting comprehensive and innovative approaches for planning in our region.
