Student leader Navgeet (King) Zed recently led a successful statewide effort across Nevada to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Zed, who is President of Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Reno Student Government Association, besides TMCC, also involved Great Basin College Elko and Nevada State College Henderson in these fundraising efforts. All proceeds are going to the American Red Cross.

The “Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief” fundraiser held at TMCC on November 19 and coordinated by Navgeet (King) Zed featured entertainment, multi-faith prayers, silent auction, raffle and food. Various religious leaders lead prayers for the victims and the devastation and the entertainment included bands Shanti-Shanti and Slow Djinn Fez (a middle-eastern fusion band). Besides various TMCC groups, it also received the backing of many area businesses, non-profits and religious organizations.

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval sent greetings for the fundraiser, commending the “kindness, support, and patriotism” and thanking for the “acts of kindness and generosity to help the families in need”. United States Senator Dean Heller sent a certificate on the occasion, recognizing the “commitment and dedication to helping those in need” and stating that “your volunteerism serves as an example to us all”.
