TMRPA NEWS RELEASE
The Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency (TMRPA) has been selected by Smart Growth America to receive technical assistance to conduct a “Planning for Economic and Fiscal Health” workshop. The technical assistance is funded through a federal grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency, and is offered free of cost to TMRPA. The grant will pay all costs for the workshop’s nationally recognized expert team.
To support the economic development efforts being undertaken by local and state leaders, TMRPA will utilize the technical assistance workshop to engage the community and local governments in a conversation regarding fiscal health.
TMRPA was selected from numerous applications representing a myriad of communities across the country in a highly competitive nationwide process. In the award letter, Roger M. Millar, PE, AICP, Vice President, Smart Growth America stated:
“Demand for this program is very high nationwide. While all of the applications were worthy, yours [the TMRPA] in particular stood out as among a select few that exhibited the strongest interest in and need for smart growth tools and clearly demonstrated a commitment from local business, community and political leaders to implement local smart growth solutions. We are excited about working with you to develop local solutions to help your community grow in ways that will provide benefits now and for generations to come.”
The collaborative role of the Regional Planning Agency results in partnerships with Reno, Sparks and Washoe County, as well as the Regional Transportation Commission, the Western Regional Water Commission, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, the Western Nevada Development District and the Washoe County School District, among others.
In addition to coordinating land-use, infrastructure provision and resource management, TMRPA provides an information warehouse and data driven, thoughtful analysis for public and private decision makers, and is committed to supporting comprehensive and innovative approaches for planning in our region.
