National Diabetes Awareness Month aims to increase awareness of Type 1 Diabetes

Date:

The month of November officially marks National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM) and, this year, supporters are encouraged to “go blue” in support of diabetes awareness for World Diabetes Day on Wed., Nov. 14. As part of NDAM, JDRF’s Northern Nevada Branch aims to continue the increased awareness of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). JDRF is the leader of the Type 1 Diabetes community, improving lives and curing Type 1 Diabetes.

“We are absolutely committed to raising awareness of Type 1 Diabetes,” said Maryann Zucker, president of the Northern Nevada Branch of JDRF. “We are asking our community for their support — through funding, by learning more about Type 1 Diabetes or simply by spreading the word — not just today and this month but until we can finally fulfill our mission to find a cure for this terrible disease.”

JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D for more than four decades through persistent funding and advocacy efforts and is the largest funder of diabetes research in the world outside of the United States government with 82.5 cents of each dollar committed to research. Originally the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, JDRF has grown to a national organization that provides funding and advocacy for Type 1 Diabetes which affects people of all ages. In fact, 85 percent of those in the U.S. with Type 1 Diabetes are adults. JDRF is the leader of the Type 1 Diabetes community, improving lives and curing Type 1 Diabetes.
