Forest roads in the Lake Tahoe Basin closing for winter

Date:

us-forest-service-3511911-1529504The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has begun the annual closure of forest roads around the Lake Tahoe Basin.  Fall closure dates are established by the Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM).  The MVUM also establishes target opening dates after the winter season.  These dates are dependent on soil conditions in order to avoid resource damage and erosion potential.  You may consult the MVUM for specific roads and dates by visiting http://www.fs.usda.gov/goto/ltbmu/TravelManagement.

Once the gates are closed, forest users are reminded to park safely off the roadway, park only in designated spots and avoid parking in front of gates.  For more information on gate closures, contact the Forest Supervisor’s office at (530) 543-2694 or visit http://www.fs.usda.gov/goto/ltbmu/RecAreaStatus.
