artown-logo-215x300-9262678-9901622CALL FOR ARTISTS – COMMISSION FOR ARTOWN 2013 POSTER
Deadline for Submissions: Friday, November 30, 2012

Please read new submission requirements for 2013

Project: Each year Artown commissions a regional artist to create a unique piece of fine art to be used for the Artown poster and marketing materials for the July festival. A panel of judges consisting of arts leaders, the previous year’s artist and the members of the Artown board will review the submissions and select the artist. The selected concept and completed artwork becomes the exclusive property of Artown and the icon for the Artown 2013 festival. The piece of art will be transformed into a poster, incorporated into the Artown website and utilized in many of the Artown marketing materials. The selected artist will be required to sign 300 posters for Artown.

This artist will be contracted at a non-negotiable rate of $3,000 and will receive 100 posters from Artown for non-commercial use for the sole purpose of promoting the artist’s work.

Submission Process: Please submit no more than two different concepts designed specifically to promote the July 2013 Artown festival (each concept needs to be a different visual idea of your representation of Artown). This is not a call for a designed poster. Artown contracts with a graphic designer to create all the marketing materials including the poster from the selected art piece. Each concept submitted need not be a fully completed work but should illustrate clearly to the selection committee what your finished piece would look like including the materials you would use and the overall flavor of your piece. Prior year poster samples can be found online.

Eligibility: Visual artists of all genre are encouraged to apply: painters, illustrators, photographers, etc. In keeping with Artown’s support of showcasing local artists, the selected artist must be from our local Truckee Meadow region: the Lake Tahoe area and the following Nevada counties: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, Churchill, Pershing, Washoe, Humboldt, Lander, Eureka, Elko and White Pine. Previous design experience, poster art experience or commissioned art experience is not necessary to apply. Artists should have demonstrated experience in a visual art medium and skills working collaboratively on creative projects.

2. No more than two different concepts designed specifically for the July 2013 Artown festival
3. A statement to support and describe each of the concepts
4. Submissions should be mailed or hand delivered to the address below. Artown will return the concepts to all non-selected artists.
