WASHOE COUNTY NEWS RELEASE
With the General Election a little more than a month away, Washoe County is looking for poll workers to help on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6. U.S. citizens who are registered to vote in Washoe County can become paid volunteers to work at some of the County’s 90 polling locations.
Approximately 35 paid volunteers are needed to work at the polls on Election Day and as emergency back-up workers. In addition, the County is looking for individuals to help deliver food to polling places and to serve at Election Central fielding calls from voters throughout Election Day.
“Any United States citizen who is registered to vote in Washoe County is eligible to become a poll worker,” said County Registrar of Voters Dan Burk. “Poll workers must be able to follow directions, have the stamina to work the long Election Day and be able to handle situations in a professional manner, even during the stress that can come as part of the job.” All workers, regardless of position or assigned duties are compensated for their service to the voters of Washoe County.
“Many of our volunteers return every election year because they enjoy the experience,” said Burk. “But we are always in need of more citizens to act as election officials.”
Poll worker information and application forms are available online at www.washoecounty.us/voters/electionworkers.html or by calling the Registrar of Voters Office at (775) 328-3670. Citizens may also stop by the Registrar of Voters Office in Reno, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1001 E. 9th St., Building A, first floor.
Citizens who wish to register by mail may pick up voter registration applications at the County libraries and most Post Office Branches. They can also register at the DMV or go online using the Secretary of State’s voter registration program at www.RegisterToVoteNV.gov. However, they can only register through these means through this coming Saturday, October 6. After that, individuals can register or make a change to an existing registration only at the Registrar of Voters Office through October 16.
