Date:

image001-1426348-3428113The University of Nevada soccer team snapped a four-match losing streak Friday afternoon on the road, defeating Wyoming 1-0 for the team’s first Mountain West road victory. The shutout is the fourth of the year for the team.

“Composure, patience, and commitment to the game plan helped us be successful today,” head coach Dr. Melissa Price said. “We are happy to get the win on the road in conference play, as this match was important for us.”

With the win, Nevada improves to (5-8-1, 1-2 MW), while Wyoming drops to (7-5-2, 0-2-1 MW).

Nevada and Wyoming had a tightly contested first half, as neither team scored in the opening period. Junior Kori Disarufino had a shot on goal in the 26th minute that nearly missed its mark by hitting the post. The Cowgirls held a five to two shot advantage over the Wolf Pack going into halftime.

The second half mirrored the first, with both teams fighting to break the 0-0 score. Wyoming kept Nevada’s senior goalkeeper Dana Moreno and the Wolf Pack defense active with multiple shots. Nevada successfully executed a counter-attack with eight minutes left in regulation, as sophomore Bobby Reilly scored her first career goal from a cross by Daisha Jones-Oglesby to give Nevada a 1-0 lead. Moreno came up with two big saves late to preserve the win.

“We encouraged our forwards to take the Wyoming players on one-on-one, and Daisha did just that to create the assist that led to Bobby’s goal,” Dr. Price said.

The Wolf Pack will close out the weekend with a stop at Colorado Springs, Colo., to face Air Force (5-4-3, 0-2 MW) Sunday 10 a.m., at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The meeting marks the first time the two programs will face each other.
