The 1905 Baldwin Steam Locomotive No. 25 will take visitors on a ride on the rails in Carson City on Oct. 20-21.

The rich railroad heritage of northern Nevada lives on at the museum, home to an extraordinary collection of railroad equipment, artifacts and related exhibits. Visitors can see how the railroad transformed the hostile frontier territory into an essential contributor to the growing nation in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad also played an important role in earning the distinction as the “Silver State.”

Wonderful to photograph, the railroad cars and locomotives on display at the museum have a rich and colorful history. From the mountains of silver they carried from nearby mines to the silver screen, where they appeared in dozens of Hollywood films, the historic pieces continue to animate the Wild West for 21st century generations.

Driven by the steam locomotive, the historic V&T Railroad train will carry passengers on half-hour tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., departing every 40 minutes.  Trains leave from, and return to, the Wabuska Depot, 2180 S. Carson St.

Museum admission is $6 for adults, free for ages 17 and under. Train rides are $6 for ages 12 and up, $3 for children 4 to 11 and free for ages 3 and under.  For information, call (775) 687-6953. The museum is open Fridays through Mondays.
