Every year the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows reaches out for support with its “It Just Takes One” Campaign. The campaign is part of the framework of Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide and is designed to remind the community that it only takes one donation, one volunteer, one contribution, to make a difference in the lives of children. This year though, in light of political campaigns that seem to highlight only the negative, the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is implementing a “Vote Kids” campaign to help educate the public about “It Just Takes One” and how the Club, known as “The Positive Place for Kids,” can make a difference with the support of the community.
“Vote Kids” is focused on the Boys & Girls Club’s five core values: Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation. By voting at www.VoteKidz.org supporters can allocate $1 from the Club’s general contribution fund to be dedicated to one of the five programs. Voting is free and participants may vote multiple times. The Club’s goal is to reach 10,000 votes by Election Day, Nov. 6. After voting for the program of choice, voters also have the opportunity to donate to the Boys & Girls Club, join the Club’s email list to receive news and special invitations to events such as the annual Cioppino Feed & Auction, or share the opportunity to vote with friends and family via social media networks.
The mission of the Boys & Girls Club is to enrich the quality of life for children aged 2 months – 18 years through education, recreation, health, arts and character development. In order to provide its much-needed services year after year, the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows relies on both grants and community support to serve more than 10,000 kids at its 20 locations. No child is ever turned away from the Club regardless of circumstances, which is why the annual “It Just Takes One” fundraising drive is so crucial to Clubs across the nation.
“This election season, we thought it would be nice to run a campaign that focuses on the positive, rather than the negative,” said Boys & Girls Club Chief Professional Officer Mike Wurm. “The ‘Vote Kids’ campaign is a fun new approach that gives the public something to support that is positive all the way around, where every vote truly makes a difference in the life of a child.”
