The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District, Stillwater Field Office, has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) to analyze potential impacts that may result from the proposed Summit Spring Reconstruction Project. Summit Spring is about 20 miles southeast of Yerington, Nev., in Mineral County. The public is invited to comment on the plan through Nov. 29, 2012.
The proposed action includes the following four components:
- Replace an existing four (4) strand barbed wire fence with a 3 strand cable and pipe fence;
- Replace the spring head box, pipeline and water trough and re-designed to allow for an effective water supply system;
- Move the water trough closer to the spring box and farther away from the road allowing the wild horses a larger escape route if startled by traffic.
