U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan hosts Reno Town Hall

block_n-6161262-5322048A Town Hall on College Affordability and the Hispanic Community, featuring U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, is coming to the University of Nevada, Reno campus Wednesday. The free, public-forum event is part of the U.S. Department of Education’s cross-country, “Education Drives America” bus tour.

WHAT: Town Hall on College Affordability and the Hispanic Community will bring together students, parents, teachers, education officials and community leaders. Representatives of the University, Truckee Meadows Community College and Western Nevada College will be on hand with college and financial aid information.

WHO: The Town Hall program will include U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Luis Ricardo Fraga, a member of the U.S. President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics and associate vice provost for faculty advancement at the University of Washington. Nevada System of Higher Education Chancellor Dan Klaich, University President Marc Johnson, Washoe County School District Superintendent Pedro Martinez and other education officials will be available for comment.

WHERE: Joe Crowley Student Union Ballroom (fourth floor) at the University of Nevada, Reno; enter campus at 15th Street.

WHEN: Wednesday, Sept. 12; doors to the Ballroom open at 4 p.m., and the Town Hall is 5 – 6:30 p.m.

MEDIA AVAILBILITY: U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will meet with media following the Town Hall, 6:50 – 7:05 p.m. in Room 423, adjoining the Joe Crowley Student Union Ballroom.

PARKING: Parking for media will be available in front of the Joe Crowley Student Union. Free public parking will be available in the University’s West Stadium Parking Complex, north of Lawlor Events Center on Virginia Street.
