The University of Nevada, Reno’s Valley Road Field Day is an opportunity for the public to see the many research and community outreach activities that happen at the 48-acre Agriculture Experiment Station and greenhouse complex just off Interstate 80 near downtown Reno. Lunch will be available for purchase from Wolf Pack Meats.

Students are invited to show their school spirit during this annual tradition, being bused to one of Nevada’s landmarks, the “N,” and making it look great with a new coat of paint. Once painted, students will head back to the Joe Crowley Student Union for a barbeque.

The DeLaMare Library now has 3D printing and scanning services available. Workshop attendees are invited for a quick, fun tour of the machines, services and 3D work being done in the library. They will learn what is possible at the intersection of engineering, art, science, design, technology and more.

Touchdown Tuesday – Tuesday, Sept. 11

The Nevada Wolf Shop welcomes shoppers to its newly painted and newly arranged store during the semester’s second Touchdown Tuesday. Sales range from 5 percent to 30 percent off clothing, gifts and general books, depending on how many touchdowns the Wolf Pack football team scores in the week’s prior game, where Nevada plays its Mackay Stadium season opener vs. University of South Florida at 12:35 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8. This will mark Nevada’s first-ever game against the Bulls and the Wolf Pack’s first-ever game against a school from the Big East Conference. The Nevada Wolf Shop is a self-supported retail operation owned and operated by the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN).
Town Hall on College Affordability and the Hispanic Community – Wednesday, Sept. 12

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will lead a Town Hall on College Affordability and the Hispanic Community. The free, public-forum event is part of the U.S. Department of Education’s cross-country, Education Drives America back-to-school bus tour. The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics is partnering with the U.S. Department of Education to bring the Town Hall event to the Reno campus. The Town Hall will bring together students, parents, teachers, education officials and community leaders to discuss education topics including affordability and access to higher education from the perspective of Hispanic students and families. Representatives of the University, Truckee Meadows Community College and Western Nevada College will be on hand with college and financial aid information.
Doors to the event open at 4 p.m., and the Town Hall begins at 5 p.m. It will be available nationally via a live web stream. Free public parking for the event will be available in the University’s West Stadium Parking Complex, north of Lawlor Events Center on Virginia Street. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s “Hiring Our Heroes” Hiring Fair is open to employers, veterans and military spouse job-seekers and is sponsored by Hero2Hired and cosponsored locally by the University of Nevada, Reno, The Chamber, the Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve, Nevada National Guard, the Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Services, Department of Veteran Affairs, Nevada Military Support Alliance, National Guard Support Center and the United States Army Reserve.
