The opportunity to participate in the 14th Annual Race for the Cure, a 5K walk or run to benefit the Northern Nevada Susan G. Komen affiliate, is coming to a close and offers tempting incentives.
Participants can register as an individual or build a team and fundraise using various tools provided by Komen. Team building is highly recommended and rewarded by the organization. Teams are given privileges and benefits after raising $625 or more for the cause. Added bonuses, such as Safeway-sponsored tailgate parties or an exclusive toilet for your team, build up depending on the amount a team can raise.
The cut-off for registration to participate in the Race for the Cure as a team is September 30. Registration for individuals is open up to the day of the race.
Seventy-five percent of the funds raised as a result of the Race for the Cure are granted to Northern Nevada lifesaving breast cancer programs. Sign-ups are available via the Northern Nevada Komen website or during Komen-specific events.
The 14th Annual Race for the Cure takes place on Oct. 7, 2012 at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino.
