Regional Animal Services to participate in Biggest Little City Pet Adoption Drive this Saturday

By ThisIsReno

Washoe County Regional Animal Services will bring their Mobile Command Center and staff to this Saturday’s Mars Petcare US Biggest Little City Adoption Drive to provide new adoptees with on-site licensing, microchip services and a variety of information useful for local pet owners.

The Mars Petcare US pet adoption drive will feature hundreds of pets from more than 20 area shelters and rescue groups. At last year’s event, more than 60 pets found new homes and organizers hope to double that amount this year.

“Our goal is to support Mars Petcare US, along with all the wonderful rescue and adoption groups taking part in this event, by providing valuable on-the-spot services and information for the pet adoptees and their families,” Regional Animal Services Manager Barry Brode said. “Working together, we can help ensure that each pet’s new home is a forever home.”

The pet adoption drive is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., this Saturday, September 29, in the Sam’s Club/Wal Mart parking lot at 4835 Kietkze Lane.

All new adoptions will include a free adoption starter kit.

Other activities include training talks with Animal Planet’s Joel Silverman, grooming tips from local dog grooming school, pet first aid information, demonstrations by the Reno K9 unit, a pet food drive sponsored by the Nevada Highway Patrol in which all donations will be doubled by Mars Petcare US, and drawings, for free pet food.

Regional Animal Services participation in this event is funded as part of a Community Lifesaving Award grant from Maddie’s Fund®, a family foundation which is financed by the founder of Workday and PeopleSoft, Dave Duffield and his wife, Cheryl.

Named after the family’s beloved Miniature Schnauzer who passed away in 1997, Maddie’s Fund is helping to create an environment where all the healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats are guaranteed a loving home.
