Nevada Advocates for Planned Parenthood Affiliates welcomes new board of directors

Date:

Nevada Advocates for Planned Parenthood Affiliates (NAPPA) met September 12thto welcome new board members as well as discuss their plans for the 2012 election.

NAPPA’s statewide board of directors:

Chairperson: Kimberly Maxson Rushton
Vice Chairperson: Vicki Cowart, CEO of Planned Parenthood Southern Nevada:
Secretary: Cathy Alderman
Treasurer: Alison Gaulden
Members: Jan Jones, Michael Hackett, Eric McMullen and Linda Williams, CEO of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte

Many candidates have publically announced support to defund Planned Parenthood and its services. These services include cancer screenings and prevention, STD testing and treatment, sexual education and contraception. With one in five women having gone to Planned Parenthood in their lifetime, many women will be forced to turn elsewhere for safe and affordable health care.

Women voters will be key to choosing the next president. Unmarried women (divorced, separated, widowed or have never been married) make up a quarter of the voting eligible population. They are also the fastest growing demographic among voters, increasing by almost 20% since 2000. Polling and election results indicate that Planned Parenthood Action Fund organizations such as NAPPA or PPAMM turn this demographic out to vote more than any political party or any other Political Action Committee. NAPPA consistently has seen a 3% or better increase in turn out of women voters in the last five election cycles.
