Week of spirit activities kicks off Wolf Pack season


The 2012 University of Nevada, Reno football season begins a new era as the Wolf Pack enters into the Mountain West Conference. Many school spirit activities help fans gear up and cheer on the Wolf Pack.

College Colors Day, Aug. 31

University of Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack fans kick off the college football season by donning their silver and blue this Friday, Aug. 31. The University is participating in ESPN’s inaugural “Pledge Your Allegiance for College Colors Day” spirit competition and is asking for fan support to help win the prestigious College Colors Day Spirit Cup.

College Colors Day is an annual celebration dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that embody the college experience by encouraging fans across America to wear their favorite college or university apparel throughout the day. Check out the many new items at the Nevada Wolf Shop and wear silver and blue this Friday.

Capital One Mascot Challenge, voting begins Sept. 3

The Nevada football team opens the 2012 season on the road as the Wolf Pack travels to face Cal in the newly renovated Memorial Stadium in Berkeley. As the football team prepares to face off against the Bears, Nevada’s Wolfie Jr. competes to defend his 2011 Capital One Mascot Challenge title this Monday against Miami’s Sebastian the Ibis.

After 16 weeks of nonstop texting and online voting by thousands of dedicated Wolf Pack fans, Wolfie Jr. went undefeated in the regular season of the 10th annual challenge and knocked off Buzz of Geor­gia Tech in the championship match. With the win, he got his claws on the $20,000 prize for Nevada’s mascot program. It was estimated that Wolf Pack fans cast over 17 million votes to lead Wolfie Jr. to the prize, while a record 45 million votes were cast during the season-long competition.

Touchdown Tuesday, Sept. 4

Sales range from 5 percent to 30 percent off clothing, gifts and general books, depending on how many touchdowns the Wolf Pack football team scores in the week’s prior game. The next Touchdown Tuesday will be Sept. 11. The Nevada Wolf Shop is a self-supported retail operation owned and operated by the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN).
