Walk in Memory, Walk for Hope in Yerington on Saturday, Sept. 15

The annual Walk in Memory, Walk for Hope in Yerington will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 10:30 a.m. The community walk will begin and end at the Boys and Girls Club of Mason Valley at 124 North Main St. in Yerington and will be followed by a balloon release ceremony, a keynote address by Lyon County Human Services director Edrie Lavoie and light refreshments.

This walk is part of a statewide event to connect communities for suicide prevention and suicide bereavement during National Suicide Prevention Month. Janett Massolo of the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention invites people to “Come walk in memory of those who have died and protect those who remain.”

Balloon Release: After the walk, there will be a memorial ceremony with a keynote address by Lyon County Human Services Director Edrie Lavoie. The keynote address will be followed by a balloon release ceremony and light refreshments.

Sponsors: The walk is organized by the Teens Helping the Community Keystone Club of Boys and Girls Club of Mason Valley in partnership with the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention.

Registration: There is a statewide suicide prevention website where participants can register online:  www.nvsuicideprevention.org. Walkers are also welcome to register the day of the event at the Boys and Girls Club.

Cost: The event is free, and walkers will be given Walk in Memory t-shirts, bags and wristbands from the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention. However, donations are welcome and can be sent to the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention at 445 Apple S., Suite 104 Reno, Nevada 89502, Attention: Janett Massolo.
