Somersett Ladies Golf Association give help, hope to encourage children with cancer

SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

The Somersett Ladies Golf Association (SLGA) has extended their golf-gloved hands to help the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation (NNCCF). The SLGA Community Service Committee will host its Sixth Annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit NNCCF on Monday August 20, 2012 at Somersett Golf & Country Club.

“Typically, a non-profit holds a golf tournament to raise money for their charity at a golf course that they select,” said Shannon Dressel, SLGA Community Service Committee Chair. “This event is the opposite. Because golf is what we love, we’ve chosen to have a tournament, raffle and silent auction to benefit a single cause that we identify which aligns with our values. Help, hope, and courage is why we’re helping NNCCF offer financial and emotional assistance for families that are have a child with cancer in the fight.”

Childhood cancer places enormous emotional strains on families and can result in financial hardship. NNCCF is the only local non-profit solely dedicated to helping children with cancer. They help with rent assistance, utilities, travel expenses such as gas and food and emotional support so families can focus on getting their child well. “Because of generous support from our community partners like SLGA we can give much needed emotionally and financially support to our families in the fight,” said Debbie Strickland, NNCCF Executive Director. “SLGA is handling all the logistics so NNCCF can use our limited resources to work with our families directly. From permits to raffle prizes, anyone involved in special events knows what an undertaking a tournament truly is.”

NNCCF will have two foursomes in the tournament, including board members, child and youth cancer survivors, and affected families who will be able to enjoy the game and engage with players to make the fight relevant and personal.

Event details: Registration will take place at at 9:30am with a 11:00 am shotgun start. The format is 4 Nevada Scramble. Cost: $380.00 per foursome, $480.00 per foursome with Hole Sponsor, or $ 95.00 per individual. Entry fee covers green fees, cart fees, lunch, and hosted bar at the reception with hors d-oeurves. Sponsorships are available for any budget. For more information or to register your individual play or foursome, please call Shannon Dressel, Event Chair, at 775-853-5433 or email [email protected].
