This month’s Power lunch features University of Nevada Athletic Director, Cary Groth. Cary Groth was appointed Director of Intercollegiate Athletics in spring 2004. Reporting directly to the President, Goth oversees Nevada’s seven men’s and 11 women’s intercollegiate athletics teams. Since her appointment, Nevada’s athletic program has achieved numerous milestones. Following the 2006-2007 season, Nevada won the Western Athletic Conference’s Commissioner’s Cup as the best overall athletics department in the conference. Additionally, Nevada’s athletic department has been recognized as the best athletics program in the nation in providing opportunities for women in sports in the national Gender Equity Scorecard. Nevada was also one of only 10 universities in the country to win Diversity in Athletics Award from the Laboratory for Diversity in Sport at Texas A&M University in 2005-06 and was again honored by that organization the following year. Groth is a 1978 graduate of Northern Illinois. She received her Master’s degree in education from Northern Illinois in 1999.
