moananurseryseminarphoto-300x200-7397081-3069222Moana Nursery has announced the following seminars for September. All seminars are free and held at Moana Nursery, 1190 W. Moana Lane, in the Landscape and Design Center across the nursery parking lot, unless otherwise stated.

September 8:  Preserving Your Harvest –Back by popular demand, join urban farmer Craig Frezzette as he discusses the many ways to preserve the bounty from your garden and shares a few tips for extending the growing season.   Craig is a USDA Certified Organic Producer and owner of City Green Gardens. He sells his produce to local restaurants and directly to the public via his subscription garden. Craig has been gardening and canning for more than 20 years in Reno. ” Bringing back one of the lost traditions associated with growing food was my main goal when I first started canning, but then I found it to be fun and exciting, and have been canning ever since. Besides being a healthy way to continue eating the goodness from the garden, it makes for excellent gifts.”

September 15:  Extending the Growing Season – While we’re experiencing one of our best growing seasons in recent memory, we still have at least two more months left to grow.  Learn what you need to be doing in your garden now to make the most of your efforts: successive plantings, row covers, hoop houses, fall crops, cover crops, planting onion seeds for next year and more.  Join our plant doctor, certified arborist and longtime high desert gardener Lisa Braginton as she shares her knowledge and personal experiences.

September 22:    Winterizing Roses & Flowering Shrubs – Jon Bruyn (Moana plant doctor, certified arborist and high desert gardener) will present expert tips and techniques for preparing your roses and flowering shrubs for the winter.  Included in the presentation are:  NOT pruning before winter, minimizing damage, watering routines and winter mulching. This is one of our most popular seminars, so be sure to arrive a bit early.

Seminars begin promptly at 10 a.m. and last one hour. Please arrive 15 minutes early, as seating is limited to 60 and is first come, first served. Visit www.moananursery.com or call (775) 825-0600 for more information.
