Hot August Nights adds fun, interactive experience to 26th annual event

Date:

Ride and Drives offer car enthusiasts a chance to feed their need for speed in some of today’s fastest, most exciting automobiles

In celebration of its 26th year, organizers of Hot August Nights are pleased to announce an addition to the event’s already jam-packed slate of activities that is sure to appeal to fans ages 18 and up. Debuting this year, are the exhilarating Ride and Drives, which allow passengers to ride along with professional drivers as they race at breathtaking speeds in some of the newest and most popular vehicles on the road. The Ride and Drives take place Tuesday, Aug. 7 through Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino parking lot.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Ride and Drives to this year’s event and know they will be one of the activities that make our 26th year unforgettable,” said Tony Marini, executive director of Hot August Nights. “With some of these cars pushing more than 600 horsepower, the Ride and Drives are a great way for participants to have fun and experience changes made to vehicles over the last several decades.”

Sponsored by Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co., Ride and Drives provide passengers with the opportunity to see, first-hand, the workings of modern day hot rods that are in the forefront of the industry. Professional drivers take passengers on a “white knuckle” ride in a Ford Mustang or a Chevy Corvette on a specially designed course to showcase the vehicles’ speed, agility and other features. Additionally, each Ride and Drive will be captured with a digital video camera. The video will be available for the passenger to email so they are able to watch, relive and share the experience with family and friends. The event is free and participants must be 18 years of age or older.

Hot August Nights begins in South Lake Tahoe Aug. 3-5 and continues in Reno and Sparks Aug. 7-12. Car registration is open to all 1972 and older American and European cars and trucks for both venues and each car registrant will receive a very special commemorative event shirt and hat, free Poker Walk hand, dash plaque, and an assortment of other items.
