Greater Nevada Credit Union goes over the edge

Date:

SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

On June 29, five Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) employees rappelled down a 27-story building in Reno, NV. Their bravery paid off, raising more than $5,000 for Special Olympics Nevada (SONV).

“We’ve supported Special Olympics since 2005”, said GNCU Chief Financial Officer Joyce Whitney-Silva. “Our fundraising has involved pancake eating contests and plunging into Lake Tahoe’s frigid winter waters. A lot of our employees get involved, and it’s all about having fun while helping our local Special Olympics athletes.”

SONV also recognized GNCU as “Corporate Volunteer Group of the Year”, one of three awards presented at the 2012 summer games held in Reno.

Accounting Specialist Angie Page volunteered at the Aquatics events during the games. “I will do this every year,” she said. “Some of the athletes had no one there to support them. It was so nice to see a smile on their face when they realized we were there to cheer them on.”

Greater Nevada Credit Union has served Nevada consumers since 1949 and is northern Nevada’s largest credit union. For more information, visit www.gncu.org.
