Boys & Girls Club prepares for full fall schedule

Ranging from the Journal Jog to Day for Kids, Vintage Nevada and more, the Club invites everyone in the northern Nevada community to come find out what the region’s largest youth services organizations is all about.

Vintage Nevada – Friday, Sept. 14

One of northern Nevada’s most celebrated events returns Friday, Sept. 14 from 5 – 8 p.m. to the downtown Reno Events Center. The Boys & Girls Club is proud to be the official benefactor of the 22nd annual Vintage Nevada event where droves of supporters enjoys hundreds of specialty wines, beers and spirits, alongside a large selection of hors d’oeuvres, entrees and desserts. Tickets are available now at www.VintageNevada.com for $45; $50 at the door.

Journal Jog – Sunday, Sept. 16

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows teams up with RGJ Media and the RGJ Foundation on Sept. 16 for the 44th annual Journal Jog. The race begins and ends at Reno High School on Foster Drive in southwest Reno and takes participants through the historic neighborhood and scenic Idlewild Park. Registration is $35 and increases to $40 the week of the race. Each participant receives a T-shirt and is invited to enjoy a complimentary post-race breakfast from Men Wielding Fire along with live music in the quad at Reno High School. Kids aged 18 and under are $15. Registration is now open at www.rgj.com/journaljog.

Day for Kids – Saturday, Sept. 22

Cashman Equipment returns as the presenting sponsor for the Boys & Girls Club’s 11th annual Day For Kids, Sept. 22 at Sparks Marina Park. The free, marina-themed event draws hundreds of families each year for a day of fun including games, bounce houses, face painting, lunch, free Club memberships and dozens of vendors offering information about community services. The event is designed to underscore the importance of parents and children spending quality time together, which is not only proven to increase academic performance, but to decrease behavioral problems and tendencies toward substance abuse.

Boys & Girls Club’s 36th Annual Awards Banquet – Thursday, Nov. 8

Recognizing the community’s best in volunteerism and charitable support, tickets and tables are available now for the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows’ 36th Annual Awards Banquet, Thursday, Nov. 8. Honoring a local professional who has exhibited extraordinary generosity and kindness over the years, the Annual Awards Banquet also honors those members who put forth exceptional effort to go above and beyond to set an example for other Club kids. One member from each of the Club’s youth and teen centers is set to receive a Member of the Year award, while the 2012 Male and Female Youth of the Year awards are given alongside the Leader in Training Member of the Year Award. Ten-person tables are available starting at $1,000 and individual tickets are $100 per person.

And amidst the event planning and preparations that go into each of these annual occurrences, the Club has launched its all-new “Tween Center” for members between the ages of 10 and 13. Featuring televisions, video game stations, homework areas, and more, the “Tween Center” is located in the Donald W. Reynolds facility on East Ninth Street and houses between 20-50 members on any given day, giving kids who are beyond childhood but aren’t yet teens a place to socialize among peers.
