SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

The Reno Ronald McDonald House continues its 25th Anniversary Celebration next week with the Red Shoe Gala on July 19, 2012. The sold out event will host nearly 700 people, including celebrity special guests Maury Povich and Connie Chung. Along with national celebrities, other local community “stars” have contributed to the success of the associated fundraising campaign, including major sponsors Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, Newmont Mining Corporation, Reno Gazette-Journal, Dolan Automotive Group, McDonald Carano Wilson, Renown Children’s Hospital, The Roxie and Azad Joseph Foundation Trust, and Wikoff Design Studio.

“We have a solid vision of what we want to build in the future,” said Rose Marie Donohue, Board President. RMHC Northern Nevada operates six unique programs that make an immediate and positive impact in the lives of children and families in northern Nevada. Funds raised by the gala will be used to sustain those programs, and grow their breadth and depth through supporting projects. During the past 25 years, the Reno Ronald McDonald House has provided over 49,100 night stays to more than 7,000 families. In the future, it is anticipated that the current 12-room house will need to be expanded and refurbished. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile will be expanded to provide additional medical and dental services to children in northern Nevada. The RMHC U.S. Scholarship Program is the second largest scholarship program of its kind in northern Nevada; second only to the Millennium Scholarship Fund in number of scholarships awarded each year. “Our intent is to expand the number and size of the scholarship awards and to create a mechanism to fund the scholarship program for years to come”, said Marty Ozer, Executive Director. The Ronald McDonald Family Room is in its 5th month of operation and already it is RMHC’s fastest growing program with plans to expand services. “By implementing these and other ideas, we will continue on our path to our desired result: improving the health, education, and well-being of northern Nevada’s children,” said Donohue.
