SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Reno Fire Department investigators are seeking information in a first degree arson case.

On Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 3:55 a.m., the Reno Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire reported at 5435 Tappan Dr. in Northwest Reno. Engine 8 was first to arrive on scene and reported heavy fire involving approximately 60% of the front of the home. Extensive fire damage occurred to the living area, front porch, and attic. The home was unoccupied and no injuries were reported. Four structure engines, one ladder truck, one safety officer, one air support unit, a fire investigator, the fire department chaplain, and a battalion chief responded to the incident.

Investigators advise the home was broken into and several fires were intentionally set. Reports obtained by witnesses lead investigators to believe that more than one person was present at the time the fire was set.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the individuals involved or the fire to contact the Secret Witness Program at 322-4900 where they can provide information anonymously, or fire investigators at 334-2300.
