WASHOE COUNTY NEWS RELEASE
Staff at the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) are putting the finishing touches on preparations to begin full fire service to the Truckee Meadows and Sierra Fire Protection Districts beginning July 1.
“We’re currently completing the hiring and assessment process,” said TMFPD Fire Chief Charles Moore, “for positions ranging from captain to firefighter. The response has been overwhelming, with experienced candidates coming from jurisdictions as far away as North Las Vegas.”
“With the experience of our new employees, we don’t have to start a training academy from the ground up. This allows us to focus the academy on policies, procedures, district orientation, and drills to make sure all of our fire professionals are on the same page when we attack a fire.” On July 1, the TMFPD will become active with a staff of 107 full-time career firefighters, 8 administrative staff, and 120 volunteer firefighters, supported by 60 logistics volunteers.
Additionally, office space for the new fire district is being completed at the Washoe County Complex at 9th and Wells in Reno, a new fire station in Hidden Valley is expected to be complete in the next 30 days, and finishing touches are being placed on the new fire station at Arrowcreek.
The TMFPD is holding a grand opening for the Arrowcreek Fire Station on June 15, from 3pm to 5pm. The station is located at the corner of Arrowcreek Parkway and Thomas Creek Road and the public is invited.
The district has a transitional website, located at www.tmfpd.us , with basic news and contact information, and will be adding additional functionality to the site as the year progresses.
The new phone number for the fire district is 775.326.6000.
