Longer hours create additional opportunities to discover Reno’s world-class discovery museum

On Monday, June 11, the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery) will extend its hours for the summer season. The Discovery is now open each Monday. Additionally, the museum will stay open until 8 p.m. every Wednesday. The Discovery’s extended summer hours will be in place through Sunday, Aug. 26. New hours are Monday and Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Thursday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 5:00 p.m.

“Since our grand opening last September, response from the community to northern Nevada’s newest hands-on museum has been tremendous,” said Patrick Turner, marketing manager. “We’re excited to add hours to give locals and tourists even more time to take advantage of everything the museum has to offer.”

In addition to extended summer hours, The Discovery is also offering summer camps. The museum offers eight weeks of summer camp beginning Monday, June 18. There will be five camps each week that feature topics ranging from art to science and super heroes to debunking urban myths. Camps are designed for children entering first through seventh grade.

Other summer activities at The Discovery include weekend family art and science classes, daily art activities in Art Alcove and a seismic challenge for two different age groups called “Make Your Own Quake” set for July 21st, 28th and 29th. For more information about these and other activities at The Discovery, visit the calendar of events on the museum’s website at www.nvdm.org.
