State Energy Office offers free training for energy code compliance

Nevada State Office of Energy CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada State Office of Energy (energy.nv.gov) is offering a free training on residential and commercial building energy codes that go into effect July 1, 2012. The new codes affect architects, contractors, engineers and builders in Nevada.

Free training sessions are being offered on the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code, which was adopted by Nevada to ensure design and construction requirements for energy efficiency.

The trainings are July 10 and July 11, 2012 at NV Energy, 6100 Neil Road, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and again at 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The July 10 training covers commercial codes and the July 11 training focuses on residential provisions of the conservation code. Topics include building envelopes, mechanical systems and electrical power and lighting requirements.

The course instructor is Ken Baker (www.kenergy.us), who has worked with building efficiency since 1978 and codes and standards since 1986.

Continuing education units are available for architects, engineers and International Code Council chapter members.
