RENOWN HEALTH NEWS RELEASE

Richard P. Ganchan, M.D., cardiologist, will be honored at Magic 2012, Renown Health Foundation’s gala benefiting Renown Children’s Hospital. During the event, Dr. Ganchan will receive the Arthur J. Lurie, M.D. Distinguished Physician Award in honor of the genuine difference his work has made in the community.

Magic 2012 is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. in the Reno Ballroom. The evening’s program will consist of music and stories of the miracles that occur daily at Renown Children’s Hospital, as well as the award presentation.

“Dr. Ganchan is very deserving of this significant recognition,” said Jim Miller, Renown Health president and chief executive officer. “We are pleased that he was selected by fellow physicians for this award and pleased to have him as part of the Renown Health Team.”

The Arthur J. Lurie, M.D. Distinguished Physician Award is given in memory of Arthur J. Lurie, M.D., a respected pioneer in cardiovascular surgery. Dr. Lurie performed the first open heart surgery in northern Nevada at Renown Health in 1977. A nominating committee of Renown physicians and other individuals selects the award recipient.

Dr. Ganchan is a Texas native. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology at Rice University in Houston, Texas. He attended medical school at Baylor University College of Medicine in Houston. He completed a medical residency in internal medicine and neurology at the University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals. He was also the chief medical resident at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salt Lake City. He completed a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Utah from 1974 to 1976.

A specialist in cardiology, Dr. Ganchan has been board certified in internal medicine since 1974 and board certified in cardiovascular disease since 1977. He worked for Reno Heart Physicians from 1976 to 2011. In 2011, he joined the Renown Institute for Heart and Vascular Health.

People interested in attending Magic 2012 can contact Renown Health Foundation at 775-982-5545. All proceeds from the event will benefit Renown Children’s Hospital.

About Renown Health Foundation
