SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
Murray Banks, motivational speaker and trainer, will present “Reenergize, Recharge, Refocus” at this month’s WIN Breakfast meeting on Friday, June 29 at 7 a.m. at the Peppermill Hotel and Casino, sponsored by the Nevada Mining Association. Banks experience as an educator and world-class athlete combine for a dynamic, interactive teaching and speaking style and focused mindset.
In 1982, Banks was honored as Vermont’s Teacher of the Year for Physical Education and the following year received an Outstanding Educator award. He has taught at every level from grade school to graduate school, has coached teams that won state championships and teams that never won a game and 40 years later is still coaching youth sports in his community.
While Banks was achieving educational honors, he was also winning his first of four National Championships in the Triathlon. He has been a top finisher in the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii twice. In 1984, he took a sabbatical and was able to train and race internationally. During that time he also worked on an advanced degree in educational leadership and co-authored a textbook. This break from public education enabled Banks to blend his two passions – racing at the highest levels and teaching outside the structure of a classroom.
Banks has since retired from triathlons but continued to pursue athletics with ski racing. At age 50, Banks won the masters World Championship in cross-country skiing. Now in his early 60’s, he still competes among the top in his age division at the masters skiing world championships.
Banks and his wife Janie have raised two sons who are elite mountain guides. The ski mountaineering expeditions they take together often find their way into his presentations. The elements of risk, adaptability and toughness are natural connections to his message as organizations work through these tough economic times.
