Sheriff’s Office Leads Reno Officer Involved Shooting

On Friday, May 18, 2012 at approximately 3:11 p.m., an Officer Involved Shooting occurred at the 400 block of Court Street Reno, Nevada.

Reno Police Officers conducted a high risk felony traffic stop on a stolen vehicle, occupied by three subjects. Officer’s from the Reno Police Department verbally engaged the driver in the vehicle and shortly thereafter were involved in an officer involved shooting.  REMSA responded, but the male driver of the vehicle succumbed to his injuries.

A Regional Officer Involved Shooting team, comprised of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Sparks Police Department, Reno Police Department and Washoe County District Attorney’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the shooting.  The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency for this investigation.  Additional information will be released as the investigation unfolds.

In accordance with the Reno Police Department policies, the four Officer’s involved in this incident have been placed on routine administrative leave.
