UPDATE
While conducting additional follow-up related to the recent rash of burglaries on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, Washoe County Sheriff’s Detectives identified Jason Greene as an additional suspect in the possession of stolen property. Sheriff’s Detectives identified items pawned by Greene at a local pawn shop as being stolen from a residence in Incline Village during early January of 2012. These items included a sentimental watch belonging to a victim of a residential burglary.
Further investigation revealed Greene had also pawned three guns and that he is an Ex-Felon as well. Under Federal and State laws, Ex-Felons are prohibited from possessing firearms. Greene was convicted in 2006 by a Washoe County court for felony possession of narcotics. Sheriff’s Detectives conducted several surveillances during the past two weeks and on one occasion they observed Greene inside the local Cabela’s Retail Store handling several firearms.
On April 4, 2012, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Greene leaving a residence near Corvallis Drive and Edmonton Drive in south Reno. A subsequent search of his residence revealed two handguns and a shotgun, belonging to Greene. Sheriff’s Detectives believe Greene was trading stolen property then pawning it to fuel his drug habit.
Greene was arrested for twelve counts of Ex-Felon in Possessing a Firearm and a felony Failure To Appear (FTA) warrant issued following a Reno Police Department possession of a controlled substance case. Greene’s bail is set at $47,440. Additional charges will be forthcoming related to possession of stolen property and burglary.
Detectives are continuing the investigation and are attempting to identify the legitimate owners of the six firearms.

From Press Release 12-0043 on March 22, 2012
On March 21, 2012, Washoe County Sheriff’s Detectives worked a collaborative investigation with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the Truckee Police Department, served a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Tramway Road in Incline Village, Nevada. The search yielded stolen property from over 11 separate burglaries from the Incline Village area dating back to 2007.
Sheriff’s Detectives have identified property from previously reported vehicle burglaries, commercial burglaries and residential burglaries. The recovered property includes car stereo equipment, laptops, jewelry, sports memorabilia, flat screen televisions, GPS devices, credit cards, identifications, a guitar, snowboards and a bicycle.
The suspect, Matthew Stanaway, was arrested earlier on March 21, 2012, by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office in California following the investigation into an overnight burglary in Truckee, California. Evidence from this theft was found in his car as well as in his residence.
Sheriff’s Detectives believe Stanaway was involved in a burglary ring that extended from Truckee through Lake Tahoe and into the Truckee Meadows. Detectives are actively investigating further leads which could result in other arrests and property recovery. Since Stanaway was arrested in California, he will face extradition to Nevada for numerous felony crimes that may include possession of stolen property and Ex-Felon in possession of a stolen firearm.
The Sheriff’s Office will hold a property viewing on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Incline Village substation located at 625 Mt. Rose Highway (State Route 431 – click the map it link). The bulk of the property has been identified and returned to the rightful owners. Several small items, including GPS devices will be available for viewing. Owners must provide a positive description of the items and a police report.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to keep track of their valuables, including keeping a record of all serial numbers or unique identifying numbers.
