WASHOE COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

The Board of Fire Commissioners for the Sierra Fire Protection District received word today that IAFF Local 3895 Sierra Fire Protection District Firefighters Association voted to ratify a collective bargaining agreement, effective April 9, 2012, which will provide for the continuation of flexible staffing and maintaining overall labor costs at a sustainable level for the next two years.

Firefighters Association President Alex Kukulus said, “I’m glad we were able to come to a reasonable agreement. Our members are eager to help maintain a sustainable future for the fire service, and we are committed to continuing the positive relationship we’ve had well into the future.”

Board Chairman Robert Larkin agreed. “The Sierra Firefighters have been great partners to help insure that our residents have an outstanding fire service there when they need it,” Larkin said. “We applaud the association’s efforts and responsible leadership to help us solve these difficult problems.”

The Board of Fire Commissioners is scheduled to take its action to ratify the agreement on Tuesday, April 10, at its regular meeting.
