Twelve exciting camps for children entering 1st through 7th grade
The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum(The Discovery) recently opened registration for its first year of summer camps and welcomes children entering first through seventh grade. The Discovery is offering eight weeks of camps starting the week of June 18th – five camps each week – with topics ranging from art to science and super heroes to debunking urban myths.
This is a huge undertaking in our first year of operation,” said Sarah Gobbs-Hill, programming coordinator. “Our new summer camp program ensures each child is given the opportunity to experience the museum and all the fun and excitement it has to offer,” said Sarah Gobbs-Hill, programming coordinator. “The hands-on activities offered in each camp will allow children to use their imaginations and create an educational experience they can call their own.”
Underwriting for The Discovery’s summer camps has been generously provided by the Terry Lee Wells Foundation. The Terry Lee Wells Foundation has donated over $5 million to The Discovery to date. This includes a $2.5 million matching gift in 2009 that helped complete the capital campaign and allowed construction of the museum to begin.
The Terry Lee Wells Foundation continues to support the efforts of the museum to create new and exciting learning opportunities for the children of our community,” said Klaus Grimm, executive director. “Their support of the museum’s camps helps us offer engaging curriculum at an affordable price .”
There are a number of discounts available to families who register for camp at The Discovery. Registrations received before May 1 will receive a $25 early bird discount. Families who register more than one child for camp will receive a $25 discount. Additionally, families who register a child for three or more weeks of camp will also receive a $25 discount. Early drop-off and late pick up for campers is also available.
