The Public Relations Society of America, Sierra Nevada Chapter, is recognizing this month local public relations practitioners who have earned the professional distinction of being accredited in public relations (APR). Northern Nevada has 17 professionals who are accredited and who are invited to attend a continental breakfast meeting April 25, 2012. During the event, other members interested in pursuing their accreditation can network with and seek mentoring from existing APRs.

Todd Felts, assistant professor of strategic communications and director of graduate studies in the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno, will offer a formal presentation titled: “Transparency in Research, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation.”

In addition to meeting the many requirements of the past, today’s public relations practitioner must understand the impacts of practicing in a 24/7 news cycle and what audiences are coming to expect in regard to more open forms of communication. This seminar will look at the role of the public relations professional as community manager and comment moderator. This seminar will also investigate levels of transparency and knowledge on how to engage openly with public audiences. It will help identify potential red flags, ethical considerations and how technology can both build and create challenges with open channels of communications.

Join PRSA at the Atlantis Casino Resort and Spa on Wednesday, April 25 at 8 a.m. The cost is FREE for PRSA members; for non-members, it is $10. Registration for this event is limited.
