Early registration extended for social media workshop

Students and professionals interested in learning more about public relations and marketing can get half off the registration through Wednesday, April 18. Taught by local PR and marketing professionals, the workshop will be held April 26 and 27 from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m at KNPB Channel 5 Broadcasting on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.

All workshop proceeds go to The Holland Project, a non-profit organization focused on art and music activities and events for youth in Washoe County. Workshop fees are tax deductible.

Workshop participants will learn practical skills and take home useful tools from some of the best-known brands in the Reno area. The presenters are:

  • Ryan Jerz, University of Nevada, Reno
  • Alison Gaulden, MyPRCoach.com
  • Abbi Whitaker, The Abbi Agency
  • Ronele Klingensmith, RKPR
  • Jim Scripps, Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows
  • Clint Neuerberg of Access Pass and Design
  • Sarah Lillegard of the Holland Project.

The workshop will take place at KNPB Channel 5 Public Broadcasting located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. The two-day program will cover basic-to-advanced public relations, marketing and social media strategies, as well as graphic design basics.

The cost to attend the workshop is half price through Wednesday, April 21, 2012.

Students:                                            $40 by April 13/$80 after April 21
Non-profit organization(s):    $150 by April 13/$300 after April 21
All others:                                          $200 by April 13/$400 after April 21

10 a.m. Mike McDowell (KPS3): Branding basics
11 a.m. Ryan Jerz (University of Nevada Athletics): Social media: the most effective networks you should use

Noon: Catered lunch

1 pm: Bob Conrad: How to write a news release – and where to send it
2 pm: Abbi Whitaker (The Abbi Agency): Pitching the news media: What to do, what not to do
3-4:30: Hands-on exercise: writing a news release

Day 2 (April 27)

9 a.m. Alison Gaulden (MyPRCoach.com): Media relations and messaging
10 a.m.: Connie Aguilar (The Abbi Agency): Setting up and running a Facebook page
11 a.m. Clint Neuerberg and Sarah Lillegard: Graphic design basics

Noon: Catered lunch

1 p.m. Ronele Klingensmith (RKPR): Marketing 101 and Arttown
2 p.m. Jim Scripps (Boys & Girls Club): Setting up and running a WordPress blog
3-4:30 p.m.: Open questions, hands-on help
