The Summer Reading Program runs from May 1-August 1 at Washoe County libraries.  Reading programs bolster skills and are free, convenient and fun.  While kids think they are having a great time, educators know that informal reading increases children’s reading skills.  Studies abound that show the direct relationship between reading and academic gains.

The 2012 Summer Reading Program will feature the themes “Dream Big, Read @ Your Library” for younger children and “Own the Night” for teens.

Kids will receive a reading record when they sign up at any public library.  They may keep track of their reading and earn rewards.  There will also be lively, entertaining and educational programs for kids and families. All programs are free of charge.

Library reading programs help keep kids engaged with learning and reading in the most fun ways.  It is especially important when they are off track or on summer break to provide an active, stimulating environment like the public library,” said Brenda Baxter, Washoe County Library System Youth Services Coordinator.

Please call your local library or visit our website, www.washoecountylibrary.us for program schedules and other information.
