WASHOE COUNTY LIBRARY NEWS RELEASE

“You belong @ Your Library®” is the theme of this year’s National Library Week, April 8-14.  Whether you are a job seeker looking for resources to land a new position, a parent looking for free activities for the family or a student searching for your next favorite book, you belong at your library.

National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.  This year it also coincides with the Washoe County School District’s spring break, giving parents and students alike another reason to visit their closest library.

According to the ALA, libraries have historically served as our nation’s great equalizers of knowledge.  Today’s libraries help level the playing field by making both print and digital information affordable, available and accessible to all people.  The strength of libraries has always been the diversity of their collections and commitment to serving all people.

“The Washoe County Library System provides a wide range of opportunities for people with diverse needs and interests,” according to Library Director Arnie Maurins “That means providing the community with a tailor-made collection, programs and services for people of diverse backgrounds, language abilities and technological skills.”

We invite you to join us during the week of April 8 to join in this celebration of libraries, a place where we all belong.  A snapshot of programs includes the following:

·       Proclamation of National Library Week by the County Commission on April 10, 10 a.m. at the County Complex at 9th and Wells Avenue, Reno.

·       Larry Wilson Magic will amaze on April 11, 11:15 a.m. at the North Valleys Library.

·       Tax assistance continues at the Downtown Reno, North Valleys, Northwest, Sierra View, South Valleys, Spanish Springs and Sparks libraries.

·       Story Times, Winter/Spring Reading Program and much more; please check us out.
