SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
SILVER SPRINGS–The Silver Stage High School S-Club, with the support of 4-H’s “Engaging Youth, Serving Communities” initiative, is holding its 3rd annual Family Game Night on March 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Silver Stage High School Commons.
Everyone is invited to this affordable community event, which includes chances to win dozens of outstanding raffle prizes from Reno Aces, Scheels, Gold Canyon Steak House, Wild Island, Silverland Hotel, Costco, The Discovery Museum, Fleishmann Planetarium, Nevada Railroad Museum, Galaxy Theatre, Café Del Rio and many others.
Family Game Night brings students, families and community members together for an evening of board games, raffles, food and fun. Raffle prizes are awarded throughout the evening. A bounce house will be in the school gym for our younger guests. The snack menu will include nachos with cheese, chips, our traditional root beer floats and more.
Proceeds from Family Game Night will be used to support S-Club’s community service projects, including the establishment of the Silver Stage High School food closet.
What does S-Club do?
The young men and women from Silver Stage High School S-Club have adopted a “Youth Against Hunger” campaign as their 2011-2012 year-long project. In line with that commitment, S-Club members work at the Silver Stage Food Pantry in Silver Springs each month. The pantry offers food assistance to residents of Stagecoach and Silver Springs.
In November, S-Club sponsored and arranged a field trip to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada (FBNN) in Reno, where they sorted food donations, along with National Honor Society and Leadership students. Their volunteer hours helped make additional donations from FBNN to the Silver Stage Food Pantry possible.
S-Club also co-sponsored and volunteered for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the high school with National Honor Society students. In February, the S-Club sponsored a “Pennies for the Pantry” fundraiser for the local Food Pantry that resulted in over $1,000 in donations from Silver Springs schools!
Game Night will support new SSHS food closet
Recently, S-Club has partnered with 4-H on an EYSC (Engaging Youth, Serving Communities) project: raising funds to establish a food closet at SSHS stocked with emergency meals, snacks for students staying for tutoring and hygiene items. The annual Family Game Night in Silver Springs will serve as S-Club’s fundraising event to stock the food closet. Donations to the food closet are welcomed.
