SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
Saint Mary’s Hospice and Palliative Care recently recognized nurse practitioner, Lorraine Bonaldi-Moore, R.N., M.B.A., M.S.N., A.P.N. for being one of the 400 pediatric nurses who attended the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium’s (ELNEC) annual Pediatric Palliative Care training in Pasadena, Calif. The principal goal of the training program was to provide healthcare practitioners with information on pediatric palliative care and offer resources to integrate into hospital clinical education programs.
“Each of our nurses is dedicated to providing the best care to our patients and we place special emphasis on how we interact and care for pediatric patients and their families,” said Lindsey Dermid-Gray, MPH, community outreach and education coordinator at Saint Mary’s Hospice and Palliative Care. “It is important for our nurses to receive ongoing education and we are very proud of the accomplishments that have been made within our Pediatric Palliative Care department.”
ELNEC is a national education initiative designed to improve palliative care standards by offering continuing education to healthcare practitioners. The initiative also provides support to nurses by developing educational resources for pediatric staff, patients and family members. The two-day course provided instruction on topic areas including an introduction to pediatric palliative nursing; perinatal and neonatal palliative care; pain and symptom assessment and management; communication; ethical/legal issues; cultural considerations, loss, grief and bereavement; care as the time of death; and models of excellence in pediatric palliative care. Additionally, a distinguished faculty of researchers, educators, authors and leaders in the field of pediatric palliative care hosted the training.
Saint Mary’s Hospice and Palliative Care is one of the few providers in the region to offer pediatric services. To learn more about Saint Mary’s Hospice and Palliative Care, visit www.saintmarysreno.org or call 770-3081.
